About the mod:
The Storm of Steel is total-conversion for Half-life², based in the trenches and battles of the First World War.

How it's fought.
The mod is focused on realistic infantry team-play, in real-world environments, with the possibility of vehicles, in an Incursion style game-play - it's not your standard "Capture point A then point B" game; Each map will feature different, unique Objectives that can be completed by a number of means.

Also, rounds are not limited by a time-limit, but by a Spawn-Limit, however, it is not a player spawn-limit, but a team spawn-limit, meaning the more players that die on a team, the less times players can spawn. A game of Attrition, if you will. When a team's "Spawn-tickets" run to Zero, that team is eliminated; Players also spawn in waves, and the more players that are dead at the time, the longer it takes to sally-up and reinforce.

The means to fight:
Players will make use of over Twenty historical accurate weapons, and various types of equipment and gear.

Iron-sights: Using Iron-sights will be one of the only ways to aim, as there will be no Reticle, and (hopefully) and floating cone-of-fire. Using Iron-sights brings up the sights (Gasp!) on your weapon, to allow for accurate aiming. You cannot, however, jump or move very fast while in Iron-sights.

Bayonets: When it comes down to Melee combat, you can fix your Bayonet to your rifle, allowing the player to let louse deadly thrusts and stabs, although it decreases the accuracy of said weapon, and makes aiming awkward. We hope to implant a Melee combat system, allowing your rifle to block other thrusts and stock attacks.

Gas-masks: Some maps will feature the gas-attacks that can be called by an Officer, or that may happen by other means. In this case, you will want your Gas-mask. All soldiers are equipped with Gas-masks and can use them at anytime (albeit uselessly when there is no gas), but your vision and hearing is drastically limited when wearing a Gas-mask.

Death and dying:
Your death in the mod will be determined by where you get hit, not by hit-points or a life-meter. Using a fully-modeled locational damage system, the mod will deal you death with a shot to the head or heart (but a slow death with a heart shot), but cripple you with a leg or foot shot, although you may still bleed to death from a severe injury, even if in the leg. Wounds cannot be heal - there were no medics or doctors on the front in the First World War.

Choosing classes:
When choosing your class, you can pick from a variety of weapons and equipment, and choose how much ammo/grenades you carry, among other things. All classes (except the Rifleman) will be limited, and some weapons/equipment; These limits are determined by what map and team you are currently playing on. Some classes have special items and abilities, such as the officer's Binoculars, which allow him to call gas and artillery attacks, and direct his men.
